Cincinnati Classical Academy presents

Veritatis Splendor Speakers Series

March 14, 7:00 PM

Cincinnati, OH — Cincinnati Classical Academy (CLASSICAL) presents the Veritatis Splendor Speakers Series, inviting nationally recognized speakers to address thought-provoking topics related to our mission of promoting moral character and civic virtue through a content-rich education in the classical liberal arts and sciences. The aim of the speaker series is not merely to deepen the knowledge and involvement of CLASSICAL’s immediate school community, but also to educate and engage the community at large. This event is open to the public.

Cincinnati Classical Academy is honored to welcome Dr. Daniel Coupland as our inaugural speaker for this series.

He will be presenting on “Education and the Cultivation of the Moral Imagination,” addressing questions such as:

• What is the moral imagination, and why is it so important?
• Why is the moral imagination requisite for the education of our children?

• What is character and why is character formation essential for a classical education?

• How are moral imagination and good character related?

• How do we cultivate them?

Dr. Coupland is a professor and chairman of the education department at Hillsdale College, the dean of Hillsdale's Graduate School of Classical Education, and Hillsdale's former dean of faculty. Dr. Coupland has received Hillsdale College’s “Professor of the Year" award and was awarded the Emily Daugherty Award for Teaching Excellence. He is the former editor for the Journal of the Society for Classical Learning. He currently serves as an advisor to the Barney Charter School Initiative, and he sits on the advisory board for the Institute for Classical Education. His research focuses on classic children’s literature and English grammar instruction. He is a co-author of CLASSICAL’s English grammar curriculum, Well-Ordered Language: The Curious Child’s Guide to Grammar published by Classical Academic Press.

Mr. Paul Mittermeier, staff member at CLASSICAL, says, "It is with great pleasure and excitement here at CLASSICAL that we launch our Veritatis Splendor Speakers Series, through which we hope to better partner with our families and broader school community in the cultivation of knowledge, wonder, and imagination regarding classical education. Accordingly, then, it is fitting that we launch this Series with a speech from Hillsdale College's own Dr. Daniel Coupland, who will highlight for families the same sense of wonder and imagination that we aim to foster in our faculty, staff, and students."

The event will take place at Cincinnati Classical Academy, 170 Siebenthaler Ave, Cincinnati, OH 45215. Admission is free, but free-will donations are welcome. Those interested can find more information and register at https://www.cincyclassical.org/speakers-series/?
