The House Civil Justice Committee has passed House Bill 283, a legislation sponsored by State Reps. Justin Pizzulli and Jean Schmidt, which aims to add a judge to the Adams County common pleas court. The bill seeks to establish two divisions within the court, one to handle civil, criminal, and domestic relations cases, and another to oversee probate and juvenile cases.

State Rep. Justin Pizzulli emphasized the importance of this legislation, stating, "This legislation will not only uplift our dedicated court staff, but it will ensure our children receive the care and protection they deserve." He also highlighted that the need for an additional judge in Adams County was evident throughout the committee process.

Echoing Pizzulli's sentiments, State Rep. Jean Schmidt expressed her support for House Bill 283, stating, "This legislation will help Adams County children and better equip those who are dedicated to serving the county with care."

Adams County is currently one of four Ohio counties with only one judge serving the entire county. The addition of a judge through House Bill 283 aims to alleviate the workload on the existing judge and ensure that justice is efficiently administered in the county.

House Bill 283 will now move to the House floor for a vote. If passed, it will bring much-needed relief to the Adams County common pleas court and provide better access to justice for the residents of the county.
