The Loveland Police Department (LPD) started the new year building relationships. Officers provided a meal for guests of the Care Center, a local organization that provides resources for families.

The Care Center is located on the Northstar Church campus, 11020 S. Lebanon Road. To help families support themselves and thrive in life, the agency provides development resources — job skill training, counseling and financial assistance just to name a few examples — as well as resources to meet their physical needs — meals, primary care, and personal hygiene products. Its goal is to help people become self-sufficient. Guests do not need to meet income requirements and are not required to live within the City of Loveland or the 45140 zip code.

Weekly, the center hosts events to distribute personal care and home supplies, such as diapers and paper goods. At their regular Wednesday evening distribution event on Jan. 4, LPD provided dinner for approximately 100 guests.

While LPD may have served the dinner, the officers and staff members who volunteered their time felt like they were truly the ones being served. Officers had the chance to interact with the center’s volunteers and attendees — many of whom may not know positive interactions with police.

“LPD and the Care Center are both in the ‘business’ of helping people. This meal is a way to show we are here for our community. Just like the Care Center, LPD wants our residents to thrive in their lives,” said Chief Michael Gabrielson.
