Since the City’s current electric aggregation contract with Constellation will end this May, Energy Alliance, Inc. (City’s energy consultants) has been negotiating with several electricity suppliers. The result is a 2-year, fixed-rate contract with Energy Harbor which will begin with the June 2023 bill.
The 2-year, fixed-rate contract locks in a rate of 6.77¢ per kWh (price includes Renewal Energy Certificates!) The 6.77¢ per kWh may sound high (the current electricity aggregation rate with Constellation is 4.56 cents per kWh). However, Energy Alliances, Inc. anticipates that Duke's default electricity supply rate will be around 9.5¢ per kWh starting with the June 2023 bill. If this prediction holds true, the City’s rate of 6.77¢ per kWh would save participants around 25% compared to Duke's default electricity supply rate.
