Loveland City Council presented two awards at its March 28 meeting.

2023 Louis G. Rockwood Community Service Volunteer Award

Lisa Freeman was presented the Rockwood Award by Councilmember Kent Blair to recognize her volunteer time and accomplishments. Blair commended Freeman’s service to the Loveland community since moving to the city 18 years ago.

She has served on the city’s Public Relations Committee, Tree and Environment Committee and Parks and Recreation Board.  Just for starters, she has led efforts to revitalize the city’s trails, update the city’s master park plan, plan Arbor Day events, and implement the free Tree Giveaway Program.

“Lisa is a true force on committees and a cheerleader for the city’s park treasures,” Blair stated.

2022 Stan McCoy Sr. Community Service Volunteer Award

The 2022 McCoy Award was bestowed to Dr. Douglas Portmann by Lisa Freeman, representative of the Loveland Parks and Recreation Board. This annual award is presented to a nominee who has participated in recreation activities that benefit the city and/or residents for at least three years.

Portmann is the founder of the Amazing Charity Race. Since 2005, this event has raised more than $600,000 for over 20 charities in Greater Cincinnati. Many local nonprofits, such as Loveland Interfaith Effort (LIFE) Food Pantry and the Loveland Music Boosters, have benefitted from Portmann’s generosity.

“Dr. Portmann combined his passion for health and wellness to create a fun — and often silly — race to give back to the community — while also including everyone,” Freeman described.

Most recently, Portmann organized an Amazing Charity Race Leprechaun Edition over St. Patrick’s Day weekend in March.
