Lifesaving Award to Steve Butler

Honorroll2

Reading Fire Department issued the following announcement on Mar 24.

This afternoon, Reading Fire Department gave a Lifesaving Award to Steve Butler for his quick action to save a man’s life at Thermo Fisher Scientific. On February 21st, Michael Baim was visiting Thermo Fisher Scientific when he suddenly went into cardiac arrest.

Without hesitation, Steve performed chest compressions until the Reading Fire Department paramedics arrived. Thankfully, the patient survived and was discharged home from the hospital after about a week of care.

First responders gathered for a reunion at the firehouse with Michael Baim and Steve Butler to recognize Butler’s valiant effort and Michael’s recovery.

We would also like to recognize the following members for their professional care given that day: Lt. Ryan Androne, FF/P Tyler Strole, FF/P Andy Dishon, FF/P Kelly Stickney, FF/P Jack Berkowitz, and FF/EMT Cameron Gephart.

According to the American Heart Association, CPR can double or triple the chances of survival after cardiac arrest when action is taken immediately. CPR, an acronym for cardiopulmonary resuscitation, is performed to restart the heart after it stops beating.
