The Blue Ash Fire Department has repurposed old firehoses into simple devices to protect school children.
The firehoses are cut into small sleeves that act as a secondary locking device in classrooms, according to Firefighter/Paramedic Scott Reed.
In the case of an active shooter, the hose piece can be slid onto the classroom door swing arm, which helps to prevent the door from being opened.
The sleeves were given to Sycamore Community Schools for use in the high school.
