The City of Cincinnati has officially launched the HomeSafe Property Tax Relief Program to support Hamilton County residents facing significant property tax increases. The recent property reassessment left nearly half of the county’s homeowners with much higher bills, creating financial stress for many families.

In response, Cincinnati City Councilmember Mark Jeffreys announced the formation of the Property Tax Task Force to investigate the root causes of the tax spike and seek sustainable solutions. Mayor Aftab, Vice-Mayor Kearney, and Councilmember Jeffreys spearheaded the allocation of $1,000,000 to aid low-to-moderate-income homeowners who are delinquent on their property taxes. These funds were directed to the Department of Community & Economic Development (DCED), resulting in the HomeSafe Property Tax Relief Program, which launched today.

Program Details:

- Relief Amount: Up to $10,000 per eligible homeowner

- Coverage: Delinquent taxes and fees from 2020 to the present

Eligibility Criteria:

- Household income at or below 80% of Area Median Income

- Property located in the City of Cincinnati

- Property must be the applicant’s primary residence

- Applicant must be delinquent on property taxes

The application process is on a first-come, first-served basis, with prioritized outreach to:

- Seniors on a fixed income

- Households with dependent children

- Homeowners in designated “LIFT” neighborhoods

Applications will be verified by the Hamilton County Treasurer’s Office and processed within 15 days. They can be submitted online, via email, by mail, or in person to the DCED.
