The National Association of Realtors (NAR) is navigating a challenging period, according to CEO Nykia Wright. The organization acknowledges the complexities facing the real estate industry and aims to progress both its association and the industry.

Wright emphasized the significance of ongoing antitrust litigation, stating that "the stakes are enormously high." She noted that potential outcomes could significantly impact not just the real estate sector but also the broader economy. Wright highlighted NAR's responsibility to address these issues comprehensively, considering how consumers buy and sell homes. "From the beginning, we have been willing to work with industry, government, and other stakeholders to improve our policies," she added.

NAR is committed to advocacy, culture, innovation, and education as part of its transformation efforts. The organization has undertaken initiatives in Congress and introduced new leadership. Sharon Millett and Vince Malta were recently appointed to fill vacancies on the 2024 Leadership Team. Wright stated that "across our organization, we have strong, valued leaders driving progress."

The association continues its advocacy efforts in Washington by supporting policies that protect real estate professionals and consumers. During the COVID-19 pandemic, NAR ensured real estate was considered an essential service. The organization defends consumer interests by supporting mortgage interest deductions and access to credit.

At state and local levels, NAR collaborates with industry leaders on zoning issues in Wisconsin and opposes tax increases in Washington. Additionally, it launched key initiatives like the Culture Transformation Commission and Policies and Procedures Task Force to strengthen organizational culture and promote transparency.

Wright concluded by affirming NAR's commitment to evolving for better service: "The real story, then, is progress."
