The Realtor Alliance of Greater Cincinnati has announced a collaboration with Habitat for Humanity Greater Cincinnati (HFHGC) for the "Real Estate Community Build" event set to take place in June 2024. This initiative aims to address the affordable housing crisis by bringing together real estate professionals such as realtors, lenders, mortgage brokers, and title companies. The goal is to raise $50,000 for building materials and construct a home for a family in need.
The partnership is endorsed by organizations including the REALTOR® Alliance of Greater Cincinnati, The Greater Cincinnati Mortgage Bankers Association, and The Ohio Coalition of Appraisal Professionals. HFHGC has built nearly 700 homes since 1986 across the tristate area. They emphasize that their program is not about giving away homes but providing opportunities. Prospective homeowners must meet specific criteria such as living in substandard conditions or paying more than 30% of income on rent, have stable employment, and be able to manage an $800 mortgage payment.
What distinguishes HFHGC is its commitment to affordability through a 0% interest mortgage, volunteer labor, and requiring homebuyers to contribute 250 hours of sweat equity. HFHGC also provides financial literacy education to ensure long-term success for homeowners.
Homeownership benefits extend beyond housing stability; it leads to improved educational outcomes for children, better health, and increased community involvement. HFHGC also offers programs like aging-in-place and critical home repair services.
