The REALTOR® Alliance of Greater Cincinnati has achieved a significant legislative success with the approval of a 30% property tax rebate for Hamilton County homeowners in 2025. The initiative was led by Hamilton County Commission President Alicia Reece, who proposed the full rebate during a meeting on November 21. The proposal received majority support.
Tracy Dunne, President of the REALTOR® Alliance of Greater Cincinnati, emphasized the importance of this rebate, stating, “This rebate is vital for Hamilton County homeowners, especially in light of the unprecedented appraisal increases and the resulting extraordinary tax bills many will face next year.” She praised county leaders for offering timely relief to vulnerable groups such as seniors, veterans, and single-income families.
The approved rebate is connected to a sales tax increase from 1996 meant for constructing new stadiums on the riverfront. This marks only the fourth instance where a full 30% rebate has been granted since its inception. Previous approvals occurred in 2012, 2017, and 2022.
Jason Kunkel from the RAGC Board of Directors supported the motion during his testimony at the hearing. He stated that while it is necessary for the county to fulfill its lease obligations, prioritizing this rebate is crucial. “These funds are not just about keeping a promise—they’re about keeping people in their homes,” he remarked.
Maura Black from the RAGC Advocacy & Legislative Committee highlighted how this rebate could provide financial relief and stimulate both real estate markets and community stability. She reiterated that promoting homeownership and protecting private property rights remain central to their mission.
