CET's program "Brick by Brick" has released a new episode titled “ADUs, Container Homes, and Modular Builds,” which delves into alternative housing models in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. The focus is on how these non-traditional approaches are addressing issues of affordability and accessibility in housing.

The episode examines three innovative solutions: Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs), container homes, and modular builds. These options provide flexible and sustainable alternatives to conventional housing development.

Mark Jeffreys, a Cincinnati City Councilmember and Chair of the Equitable Growth and Housing Committee, is highlighted for his efforts in tackling the housing crisis through zoning reforms. He has set an ambitious target of creating 40,000 new homes over the next ten years. Jeffreys’ leadership underscores the importance of creative solutions to expand housing supply.

The program illustrates how ADUs can increase neighborhood density without compromising their character. It also shows how modular and container home construction can offer cost-effective routes to homeownership and rental opportunities.

Jeff Rosa from the REALTOR Alliance of Greater Cincinnati’s Advocacy Committee points out that embracing creativity in housing will be crucial for community success. “The communities that will thrive are the ones embracing creativity in housing. What we’re seeing in Cincinnati is a model for others across the state,” he says.

Mary Huttlinger, Government Affairs Director for the REALTOR Alliance of Greater Cincinnati, praises the program's approach: “This isn’t just a policy conversation—it’s about what our future looks like. REALTORS are ready to be part of the solution, whether that means educating the public, informing policy, or working alongside city leaders to make these projects viable.”

With insights from experts and real-world examples, "Brick by Brick" suggests that the future of housing could be quite different than today’s norm.
