Norwood Civil Service Commission is accepting applications for the part-time position of MERIT SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR

The Norwood Civil Service Commission is accepting applications for the part-time position of MERIT SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR for the City of Norwood. The selection process will involve a series of tests beginning with a written examination to be held at Norwood City Hall Council Chambers located at 4645 Montgomery Rd. Norwood, OH 45212.

Applicants must be at least eighteen (18) years of age at the time of appointment. Applicants must receive a minimum passing grade of seventy percent (70%) on the written test prior to receiving any additional credit. Candidates passing the written test may be required to undergo additional tests such as polygraph and/or psychological or any other test deemed appropriate. Applicants must be prepared to pass all tests.

Proof of discharge under honorable conditions and/or the completion of an Associate’s/Bachelor’s degree must be submitted with the application to receive credit on your score. All applications must be submitted by the deadline or it will NOT be considered.

Summary:

The key function of this position is to provide administrative support to Civil Service Commissioners.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

Organize, coordinate and perform multiple duties of a confidential nature;

Coordinate, communicate and monitor event/meeting calendar, sets up and maintain administrative files of correspondence and records;

Responsible for recruiting, advertising, application management, administering tests, and establishing applicant eligibility lists for all classified positions;

Produce, edit and develop communications (memorandums, letters, etc.);

Must maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion

Competency: To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:

Excellent written and verbal communication, documentation, and organizational skills;

Need to effectively and professionally communicate on the City of Norwood’s behalf;

Strong sense of urgency; self-directed to accomplish deadlines with little to no supervision

Screen mail/email from outside and within the organization. Review, organize and prioritize mail, faxes, e-mails, phone calls and general;

Friendly disposition- will be dealing with community members, business leaders, and staff face-to-face;

Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Outlook Calendars, etc.

Education/ Experience:  High School Graduate or GED required; Computer skills including WORD, EXCEL, POWERPOINT; Google Docs and emerging tech.; Excellent communication and organizational skills; Previous clerical/administrative experience

Computer Skills:  Understanding of technology as well as Microsoft Suites

Supervisory Responsibilities: Has no supervisory responsibilities
