The House Government Oversight Committee has passed House Bill 51, also known as the Second Amendment Preservation Act. The bill, sponsored by State Rep. Mike Loychik and State Rep. Jean Schmidt, aims to protect the Second Amendment rights of Ohio citizens.

The Second Amendment Preservation Act is designed to enact anti-commandeering legislation, relieving Ohio law enforcement agencies from enforcing any unconstitutional federal gun-control laws, executive orders, or agency rule interpretations. By doing so, this bill ensures that Ohio's own laws when it comes to owning guns, ammunition, and accessories are upheld.

State Rep. Mike Loychik emphasizes the importance of this act in protecting citizens' fundamental rights. He states, "This Second Amendment Preservation Act protects one of our most fundamental rights as citizens. This bill allows Ohio's law enforcement to carry out Ohio's laws when it comes to owning guns, ammunition, and accessories. If any of these protections are violated, the bill permits an Ohioan to take action against agencies who have violated the SAPA Act."

In addition to relieving law enforcement agencies from enforcing federal gun laws, the legislation also eliminates references to the United States Code as they relate to gun laws in Ohio. This means that Ohio's gun laws will be the standard for those residing in the state.

State Rep. Jean Schmidt highlights the significance of this legislation in protecting the rights of all Ohioans. She states, "This important legislation protects the rights of all Ohioans. This is a straightforward bill that will ensure Ohioans' Second Amendment rights are not infringed upon."

The Second Amendment Preservation Act will now move to the House floor for a vote. If passed, it will further solidify Ohio's commitment to upholding the Second Amendment rights of its citizens.
