State Representative Jean Schmidt from Loveland has expressed her condolences following the passing of former Speaker Jo Ann Davidson. In a statement, Schmidt reflected on the significant impact Davidson had on her career and the state of Ohio.

"Jo Ann Davidson was a friend and a mentor that took me under her wing before I entered the State Legislature," Schmidt said. She praised Davidson's leadership qualities, highlighting her fairness and understanding of important issues, particularly those concerning women's health such as breast cancer screenings.

Davidson was recognized for breaking barriers for women in Ohio politics. "Not only did she break the glass ceiling in Ohio for women, but she was a stateswoman, a trailblazer, and, most of all, a role model for all," Schmidt noted.

Schmidt also emphasized Davidson's lasting influence through initiatives like the Jo Ann Davidson Ohio Leadership Institute. This program aimed to increase female representation in government at various levels. "She mentored many women, and her legacy will be felt for a long time," Schmidt added.

In closing her statement, Schmidt offered condolences to Davidson's family: "My thoughts and prayers are with her family. We have lost a great friend of Ohio, and she will be missed dearly."
