The Ohio General Assembly has approved Senate Bill 158, which includes provisions from House Bill 283 to add a judge to the Adams County Common Pleas Court. State Representative Jean Schmidt (R-Loveland), who is a joint sponsor of the bill, announced this development.

The legislation proposes the establishment of two divisions within the Adams County Common Pleas Court. One division will handle civil, criminal, and domestic relations cases, while the other will oversee probate and juvenile cases. Currently, Adams County is one of four counties in Ohio with only one judge serving the entire county.

“I am grateful for my colleagues’ support of this critical legislation,” said Schmidt. “I am confident that by adding another judge to the Adams County commons please court, we will ensure our children receive the care and protection they deserve.”

Senate Bill 158 now awaits action from the Governor.
